Description:
The SHCA report is collected annually from the very largest U.S.-resident custodians and end-investors. U.S. ownership of foreign securities (including, equities, long-term debt, short-term debt, and asset-backed securities) are submitted on a detailed security-by-security basis. The SHCA data are used in conjunction with the results of the previous SHC report to compute economy-wide estimates. The purpose of the SHCA report is to gather timely and reliable information on the levels and changes in U.S. international portfolio capital positions for the preparation of the official U.S. balance of payments as well as for statistical series compiled and maintained by the International Monetary Fund.
